Cypress Creek Energy Strengthens Leadership Team to Support Accelerating Growth
PR Newswire
DURHAM, N.C., Oct. 7, 2026
New appointments advance project delivery, operational excellence and investment in people
DURHAM, N.C., Oct. 7, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Cypress Creek Energy today announced three strategic executive appointments, building on significant company momentum and supporting its next phase of growth: Peter Toomey has transitioned to Chief Operating Officer, Nancy Bucher has joined as Chief People Officer, and Billy Wang has joined as Executive Vice President of Cypress Creek Solutions. The new hires and assignments reflect Cypress Creek’s commitment to its team and to building the leadership and operational capabilities to support continued growth.

A leading U.S. energy infrastructure platform, Cypress Creek develops, finances, owns, and operates utility-scale and distributed energy infrastructure – including solar, storage, and firm capacity solutions. The appointments support the company’s accelerating growth as it continues to deliver reliable, affordable power for utilities, communities and large-load customers, including the expanding digital economy.
The company’s momentum and ability to execute at scale are reflected in its Steel River Energy Center in Arkansas. Earlier this year, Cypress Creek closed $3.5 billion in financing for Steel River and began construction on the project’s first two phases, marking the groundbreaking of America’s largest solar project with battery energy storage. Google has secured energy from both phases through a power purchase agreement with Cypress Creek, representing the largest solar and storage project in Google’s global portfolio to date.
As Cypress Creek grows, it is investing in the people and culture behind that progress, bringing in new expertise, creating opportunities for its current team and elevating proven leaders.
Peter Toomey, Chief Operating Officer, previously served as Chief Development Officer and has been with Cypress Creek for nearly four years. He has helped drive the success of its development and construction management organizations and shape the company’s broader business strategy. As COO, Toomey brings together Project Execution and Cypress Creek Solutions, the company’s asset management and operations arm, with additional responsibility for Continuous Improvement and Grid Integration. His appointment aligns critical capabilities across construction, operations and long-term asset performance to support disciplined execution, operational excellence and continued growth.
Nancy Bucher, Chief People Officer, has joined to lead talent acquisition, team member development, total rewards and culture initiatives. Previously Executive Vice President of Human Resources at Golin Ketchum (formerly Golin), she brings experience helping organizations navigate growth and change. Her focus is on attracting great talent, supporting career growth and strengthening the culture that enables Cypress Creek’s people to do their best work.
Billy Wang, Executive Vice President of Cypress Creek Solutions, joins Cypress Creek with decades of experience in complex operating environments and performance optimization. He will report to the COO and lead the company’s asset management, performance engineering and in-house operations and maintenance platform, whose team manages more than 8.6 GW of energy assets for Cypress Creek and third-party owners across 24 states.
Cypress Creek’s long-term ownership and in-house operations capabilities distinguish its approach in the industry. Because the company operates what it builds, lessons from the field feed directly into development, engineering and construction, improving project design, strengthening accountability and maximizing long-term performance.
“We’re delivering energy infrastructure at gigawatt scale, and our experienced and focused team makes that possible,” said Kevin Smith, CEO of Cypress Creek Energy. “I’m delighted to welcome Nancy and Billy and congratulate Peter on his new role. Together, they will help us build on what makes Cypress Creek special: talented people who care deeply about doing energy the right way, guided by our values, a commitment to safety and strong partnerships with our customers and communities.”
